Located in Boulouparis on the Hauts de la Ouitchambo , on a 400 hectare property between mountain ranges, forests, waterfalls and river, the Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue offers you a true natural setting to recharge your batteries, rest or immerse yourself in Caledonian bush with various activities.
The concept ? Stay surrounded by nature in a large house built with ecological materials in a valley just 1 hour 15 minutes from Nouméa. Self-built in wood and on stilts, the 560 m2 house on two floors is oriented to optimize solar energy production. The Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue does everything possible to best respond to ecological and practical concerns: wood heating, photovoltaic and thermal solar energy, waste sorting, dry toilets, reuse of waste water.
You will find at the Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue:an orchard, 12 crayfish breeding ponds, a real water garden and natural setting for wildlife and the forest, a pond filled with water lilies and koi carp, as well as a mini farm, where you can meet chickens, peacocks, guinea fowl and ducks.
The Gîte is composed as follows:
- a large common room of 150m2 with a library and table football, as well as a large table that can accommodate 26 people,
- a fully equipped 55m2 shared kitchen (cooking hobs, gas oven, frying pans, pots, pots, dishes, cutlery, spices, herbs, oils and vinegars, cleaning essentials, etc.)
- five bedrooms, two shared bathrooms , a terrace, a barbecue and a wood oven in the garden.

Full breakfast is included with the overnight stay.Prepared with love, with fresh, local and homemade products: homemade bread and pastries, fruit, homemade jams and honey, eggs, hot and cold drinks (kefir, kombucha or lemonade). Vegan and/or gluten-free options on request.
Possibility of booking lunches and dinners, at least 72 hours in advance, for a minimum of 2 people: XFP3,000 per adult and XPF2,000 per child (3 to 11 years old).
The track which leads to the lodge is 5.5km long, 4*4 remains recommended even if it is not obligatory. The gîte is listed on Maps.me. We also offer a shuttle service for those who do not wish to bring their car up, please do not hesitate to contact us about this.
We have created a small shop within the gîte where you can find produce from the field, the transformations we do and crafts (plants, eggs, bread, jams, syrups, dream catchers and mobiles, etc.)
Swimming : 100 meters from the gîte, you will discover a water hole along the Ouatchoue river in which you can swim.
Hiking : from the gîte, you have access to several hiking trails:
▪ Pic Ouitchambo which you can do in around 3 hours round trip;
▪ the waterfall trail, a 2-hour loop combining forest and viewpoint;
▪ viewpoint 1 which you can do in around 2 hours round trip;
▪ viewpoint 3 which you can do in around 2 hours 40 minutes round trip;
▪ Mont-Do which you can do in around 5 hours round trip;
▪ the GR3 Oui-Poin: 11 hours of one-way trek (2 large refuges are at your disposal with toilets, BBQ, dormitory, dining room)
Hunting is a possible activity at the Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue. Certain conditions apply, please contact us for full details.
Crayfish fishing is a unique activity in New Caledonia. When it's the season, we entrust you with traps and bait. Sale is by weight after sorting.
The nearby beaches are those of Port Ouenghi beach, Ouano and Bouraké.
Accompanied hike on our hiking trails: XPF2,000 for 2 people then XPF500 per additional person.
Site visit (1 hour) for outsiders: XPF500 per person.
Day access to the site for outsiders (access to the gîte's facilities, the river, hiking trails, etc.): XPF1,500 per person.
Car parking for GR Nassirah-Ouipoin hikers: XPF500 per car per day.
Shuttle to access the gîte from the village: XPF1,000 xpf (back and forth).
Group rates for your events: from 17 people to 22 (maximum room capacity), -10% on the total price. To this must be added 1500 xpf per person for breakfast. For more than 22 people, some camping places are possible: contact us!
