Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue
Located in Boulouparis on the Hauts de la Ouitchambo, on a 400 hectare property between mountain ranges, forests, waterfalls and river , the Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue offers you a true natural setting to recharge your batteries, rest or immerse yourself in Caledonian bush with various activities .
The concept ? Stay surrounded by nature in a large house built with ecological materials in a valley just 1 hour 15 minutes from Nouméa. Self-built in wood and on stilts, the 560 m2 house on two floors is oriented to optimize the production of solar energy. The Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue does everything possible to best respond to ecological and practical concerns: wood heating, photovoltaic and thermal solar energy, waste sorting, dry toilets, reuse of waste water.
You will find at the Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue: an orchard, 12 crayfish breeding ponds ,real water garden and natural setting for wildlife and forest, a pond filled with water lilies and koi carp, as well as a mini farm, where you can meet chickens, peacocks, guinea fowl and ducks.
The Gîte consists of a large common room, a shared kitchen, 5 bedrooms , two shared bathrooms, a terrace, and has a barbecue in the garden.
The large common room of 150 m2 includes a library with hundreds of books at your disposal, a large table to accommodate 26 people and a table football.
The 55m2 kitchen is fully equipped : 10 cooking burners, gas oven, frying pans, pots, pots, dishes, cutlery, spices, herbs, oils and vinegars, cleaning essentials...
The 5 bedrooms upstairs are composed as follows:
- 4 bedrooms can accommodate up to 4 people.
- 1 bedroom can accommodate up to 6 people.
Two shared bathroomsare at your disposal in which you will find 3 showers, 3 dry toilets and 3 sinks.
The gîte also offers a table d'hôte for breakfasts: prepared with love, with fresh, local and homemade products: homemade bread and pastries, fruit, homemade jams and honey, eggs, hot and cold drinks (kefir, kombucha or lemonade). Vegan and/or gluten-free options on request.
Breakfasts must be reserved at least 48 hours in advance.
Check-in: 2 p.m.
Check-out: 11 a.m. - Possibility to stay on site until 2 p.m.

Bathing
100 meters from the gîte, you will discover a water hole along the Ouatchoue river in which you can swim.
Hiking
From the gîte, you have access to several hiking trails:
- Pic Ouitchambo which you can do in around 3 hours round trip;
- the waterfall trail, a 2-hour loop combining forest and viewpoint;
- viewpoint 1 which you can do in around 2 hours round trip;
- viewpoint 3 which you can do in around 2h40 round trip;
- Mont-Do which you can do in around 5 hours round trip;
- the GR3 Oui-Poin: 11 hours of one-way trek (2 large refuges are at your disposal with toilets, BBQ, dormitory, dining room)
Hunting
Hunting is a possible activity at the Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue. Certain conditions apply, please contact us for full details.
Fishing
Crayfish fishing is a unique activity in New Caledonia. When it's the season, we entrust you with traps and bait. Sale is by weight after sorting.
Reading
We put at your disposal our large personal library which consists of more than 300 comics, novels, poetry, scientific and historical works, etc.
