The ride of 60 kilometers from Noumea to Provincial Park of Blue River is already a discovery in itself. The road on the hillside reveals very wild landscapes marked by red earth, so characteristic of the deep south of New Caledonia.
Sublime landscapes in a haven of peace
The park covers 9045 hectares including the White River, Blue River and the artificial lake of Yate.
Created in 1980 to protect the natural heritage, it also aims at environmental awareness.
Therefore, strict rules have been put in place to maximize its preservation and to provide visitors a quiet moment in nature: the park is mostly pedestrian. In white river, speed is limited to 40 km/h. On the side of the blue river, cars are not allowed.
After the entrance where a complete map of locations and explanations are given, a parking area is available to leave your vehicle near the Pérignon Bridge. For those who do not want to walk far, shuttles can be reserved at the entrance and stop at different places in the park.
Many plant species to discover
Near the Pérignon Bridge, is a wonder of nature: the drowned forest. White trunks stripped of all vegetation pierce the still lake. This petrified landscape is worthy of a film set. It is possible to ascend the lake zigzagging between the gaunt trunks in a canoe in order to come close to this surreal setting.
Other locations are on the contrary full of life, like the river conducive to refreshing swim. The reserve is home to many species preserved as the famous symbol of the countrythe cagou and the notou. Plant species are also emphasized with the immense Kaori, tree 1000 years old whose height make you dizzy.
Provincial Park of Blue River has been optimally designed by proposing several areas for picnics, numerous hiking trails of various lengths and difficulties.
It is also possible to make mountain biking but you need to plan enough drinking and snacks for the park lacks supplies of this kind.
